The government's decision to step back from including the Manusmriti in the syllabus due to fear of leftists shows a lack of courage. Ambedkar, who never studied Sanskrit, made comments about the Manusmriti based on translations and his limited understanding, calling it a hateful book. This misconception still affects us today.
Ambedkar's views on the Manusmriti are not the final word. There were many great thinkers and scholars before and after him. Some people, influenced by Western education and Christianity, made shallow comments on Hindu religious texts, and these comments were used for political gain.
The BJP talks about 'Constitution Day' but doesn't add a single book to the syllabus. The problem with the BJP is that its members are more afraid of the word 'saffron' than the leftists.
The government should confidently state that it will set the curriculum. If people go to court, the government should clearly say that the court should focus on granting bail rather than advising on policy-making, which is not its job.
Books related to Hindus, like the Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads, Smritis, or history, represent thousands of years of knowledge. We should not rely on the limited understanding of one person in a blue suit.
I repeat, I will not form opinions based on the knowledge of people like Ambedkar. Whether it is about Islam, the Manusmriti, or other texts, I will form my views based on my study.
Even if I am uneducated, my faith will always be in the sages who observed, lived, researched, and guided society, not in someone who is being politically promoted.
For me, Ambedkar, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, and Gandhi are all the same. Research them and draw your conclusions.
