Mahatma Gandhi was the master of the communication
Mahatma Gandhi (2 October 1869-30 January 1948) was determined to fight the freedom struggle through non-violence and had an infallible weapon in this war and that was the newspaper. He said that no struggle based on internal power can be carried on without a newspaper.
Gandhi Ji started his journalistic career in 1891 with the "Vegetarian" newspaper from South Africa. In this newspaper, he used to write articles regularly.
He worked as a correspondent for Dada Bhai Naroji's newspaper "India" at Darbun in Johannesburg. During the Boer war (1899-1902) he used to write his war experiences for The Times of India.
In the same war, his political opponent Churchill also worked as a war correspondent for The Morning Post and The Pioneer in1903.
Mahatma Gandhi started The Indian Opinion newspaper in 1903, which was printed in English and Hindi as well as in Gujarati and Tamil.
The situation was such that every young man, including Gandhi, had to sweat to operate the machine.
Having returned to India, Gandhi Ji started Navjivan in 1917 and Young India in 1918. Against the Rowlatt Act, he took out a Satyagrahi newspaper without registration.
The Harijan newspaper was started by him in 1933. Bapu himself used to write every word of it. Bapu, who could express great thoughts in the minimum words like a mantra, wrote in Indian Opinion- "The first aim of journalism is to understand and give expression to public sentiments."
The second task is to arouse the necessary emotions and the third task is to expose the disturbances boldly.
